Randall Stone speaks at a gathering of Chico Law Enforcement Officials

Randall Stone speaks at a gathering of Chico Law Enforcement Officials in July 2015.

I stand with human beings.

Krista and I are heartbroken at the violence yesterday and the last month. We had two records for violence broken in the last month. When does it stop? When do we as a collective group reject the hate mongering and isolation; the exclusion and prejudice based on where we come from or what we wear or the job we perform or some other socioeconomic factors.

I don’t know what caused the events of two days ago. But I know that the people injured or killed last month and last night (except the suspect) did nothing to provoke or expect what happened to them.

It may help to change our language of acceptance and tolerance to signal that we do not accept this type of hate or retribution. We can say we don’t tolerate confederate flag imagery, or people who draw divisions between us, or reject others based on some real or perceived differences. In short, we can let each one of us know that we stand with you – because you are a human being.

I stand with you, human being.
